Refined Country Living
This couple came to me with two distinct priorities: they're serious art collectors who wanted their home to properly showcase their collection, and they needed a layout that would work for them now and adapt as they age. Everything for daily living needed to be on the main floor, but they also wanted bedrooms for visiting family and future space for a live-in caregiver.
The site presented its own challenges and opportunities: a five-acre lot with a hunt club trail running through the property. We cleared two and a half acres of trees to create the building site while preserving the natural setting around them. Even during construction, the couple would come sit in lawn chairs with their morning coffee, watching the progress unfold on what would become their dream home.
The design centers on a long entrance foyer that functions as an art gallery, leading visitors into a generous open entertaining space where kitchen, dining, and living areas flow together. Custom niches and display areas throughout the home give their collection the presence it deserves. A large back porch with fireplace overlooks the swimming pool, extending the entertaining space outdoors.
For the bedrooms, I tucked spaces for visiting children above the garage on one end of the house—close enough to feel connected, separate enough to give everyone privacy. On the opposite side, above the master suite, an office is positioned to eventually transition into a caregiver's room when needed. Everything they need for daily life stays on the main floor, while the upper spaces provide flexibility for the future.
